Sue writes a weekly poem to go along with Sunday school lessons. She has a gift of teaching God's word through poetry and inspiration from God. I hope you enjoy her poems and are blessed as I have been from reading them and learning from the Word of God. Philemon 1-25
"Forgiveness"
Paul wrote Philemon
A warm and tender letter.
He wrote about Onesimus,
Hoping to make things better.
Onesimus had run away
From Philemon, his master.
It was a bad situation,
But not a total disaster.
Paul had led both men
To faith in Jesus Christ.
Their salvation was settled,
Bought at a very high price.
Paul beseeched Philemon
To forgive his runaway slave.
Extending love and forgiveness
Is the Christian way to behave.
Onesimus had been helpful
During Paul's imprisonment.
Paul now returned Onesimus,
And well wishes he also sent.
Onesimus was sent as a brother,
Not as a runaway slave.
He was now a true believer,
No longer a scheming knave.
While we were running from God,
Christ paid redemption's cost,
Offering love and forgiveness
That we might not be lost.
Thus it behooves each of us
To be loving and forgiving,
To show a Christ-like spirit
In all of our daily living.

We utter many words each day
Without thinking what we say.
Some words bring hope and cheer,
While others bear scorn and fear.
Sometimes it's how we say a word!
The tone of our voice as it is heard
Can often reveal our true intent
And disclose what we really meant.
Words can be so wonderful!
They can gladden and bless the soul.
So, choose your words carefully,
And speak your remarks prayerfully!!

Colossians 1: 15-23
"Christ Alone"
False teachings began to surface
At the Colossian church.
Paul did not want to see
The name of Christ besmirched.
He wrote a letter explaining
That Christ is above all.
He is the Lord of the universe,
Yet He hears us when we call.
Christ created all things.
He is seen in every flower.
He ordains our entire world.
He reigns with His great power.
Christ is the Lord of the Church.
His position is the head.
The Church is the body,
And by His word we are fed.
Christ existed before creation.
He and the Father are One.
God revealed Himself to us
Through Jesus, His only Son.
Christ is the pathway to God.
He is the Truth, the Way.
He seeks the lost sinner.
He seeks those who go astray.
Christ alone can save.
He paid our debt of sin.
He alone can change hearts.
Only He can give peace within.
The Lord of the universe
Died upon the cross.
He died to reconcile us to God.
He died that none might be lost.
If you have not accepted
Jesus into your heart,
Why not do it today?
Christ has done His part!

I Kings Chapters 19 and 20
"Down but not Out!"
After the victory on Mt. Carmel,
Elijah became despondent.
Jezebel had threatened his life.
And he was no longer confident.
Elijah fled to the wilderness
And sat under a juniper tree.
He asked God to take his life,
But God would not grant this plea.
The angel of the Lord came
And gave him meat and drink.
He arose and went to Horeb.
There he could rest and think.
When God spoke in a still small voice,
Elijah knew he was not defeated.
Then God sent him on his way
With other jobs to be completed.
He anointed Hazael and Jehu;
He anointed Elisha too.
Elijah realized at last
That he had more work to do.
At times we feel defeated,
And we feel we are alone.
But we must remember
That God is upon His throne!
So when you feel beaten,
Just get a second wind.
Keep looking to Jesus for help.
He is your very best friend!

GALATIANS 5: 1-15
"Christian Freedom"
The very word, freedom,
Carries a special ring.
It fills our hearts with joy.
It makes us want to sing.
Freedom for Americans
Has come at a very high cost.
We must always guard it,
Lest it be forever lost.
Even greater to believers
Is the freedom that we know.
Faith in Jesus, our Savior,
Makes our joy overflow.
Paul urged the Galatians
To serve others in love,
To use their spiritual freedom
To glorify God above.
Paul made it very clear
That freedom did not give
License to indulge in sin
Or to be careless how we live.
The entire law of God
Is found in one command
Love your neighbor as yourself.
This is what God planned.
Let us always be thankful
That Christ has set us free.
Let us serve others in love
As we serve Him faithfully!

FOCUS ON THE RISEN SAVIOR

Easter LessonLuke 24: 1-53
"He Lives!"
On the first day of the week,
As dawn broke through the skies,
The women went to the tomb.
Tears filled their eyes.
Jesus, their teacher and friend
Had been killed, crucified.
His body had been entombed.
They wished He had not died.
Mary and other women
Brought spices to the tomb.
They did not know then
Soon joy would replace gloom.
They found an empty tomb.
Jesus' body was not there.
The stone had been rolled away,
Their hearts were full of despair.
Suddenly two angels appeared,
Giving them reason for joy.
Jesus was alive; He had risen!
Death's power He had destroyed!
The women ran to tell the news
That Jesus had risen from the dead.
He rose and He lives forevermore,
Bringing hope instead of dread.
Christ defeated the bonds of death.
He lives as King of Glory.
Upon Him our sin was laid!
What a triumphant story!
He offers hope and life eternal,.
He died on the cross for you.
Accept Him as your Savior,
This I pray you will do.!!

Colossians 3: 1-17
Holy Living
"Old Life vs.New Life"
Paul reminded the Colossians
Of the standard which God expects.
Holy living should be our goal.
God's perfect love it reflects.
Setting our sights on
Things which are above
Will change attitudes
Into hearts full of love.
Sinful practices must not be
A part of a believer's walk.
Greed, idolatry, lust, and lies
Do not belong in Christ's flock
Anger, wrath, malice, slander,
Filthy language too
These things have no place
In the life of a believer true.
Gentleness, patience, humility,
Compassion and kindness
These special traits are the ones
Christians should possess.
The old man with his deeds
Has been cast far away.
The new man is now a saint,
Living for Christ each day.
Let the word of Christ
Dwell richly in you.
Give thanks to God the Father
In all you say or do.

GUARD AGAINST WORLDLY INFLUENCES

April 6, 2003 I Kings 11: 1-43
"SOLOMON'S REQUEST"
When Solomon came to the throne,
He was a very young man.
Some said he was only twenty,
But he was a part of God's plan.
With such an overwhelming job,
Solomon felt a great need.
He knew he needed wise counsel,
If he hoped to succeed.
The Lord appeared in a dream,
And gave Solomon a choice.
Solomon was very humble
As he listened to God's voice.
"Give me wisdom," Solomon said.
"I will need a discerning heart.
To judge so many people,
I need wisdom to impart."
God was pleased with this request,
And He promised this and more.
Solomon would be a great king
With many blessings in store.
All of us need wisdom
To meet the trials of life.
Many dangers await us,
And days are full of strife.
Ask God daily for wisdom
To guide your steps aright.
He will lead you safely.
He is the God of great might!

John 21: 1-25
"Cast a Net"
Peter decided to go fishing,
And the others went too.
Many things had happened.
This seemed what they should do.
All night long they fished,
Yet their nets were empty.
When the morning sun came up,
They saw Jesus beside the sea.
Jesus told the fishermen
To cast their nets once more,
Cast them to the other side.
Then they caught fish by the score.
Obedience brought reward.
Many fish they caught that day.
When they were sure it was Jesus,
They went to shore without delay.
Jesus had a meal ready,
One that He had prepared.
"Come and dine," Jesus said.
Sweet fellowship they shared.
Three times Jesus told Peter
That he should feed the sheep.
Three times Peter vowed his love.
This charge he would surely keep.
We are called to witness too,
To launch out into the deep,
To cast the net of the gospel.
We must reach the lost sheep!
Jesus gives us a commission.
He calls us to our tasks.
Will you serve Him faithfully?
Will you do what He asks?

GUARD AGAINST DISTRACTIONS

March 30, 2003
I Kings 9: 10-10: 29,
II Chron. 1: 14-17; 8: 1-28
"SOLOMON'S SUCCESS"
The first twenty-four years
Of Solomon's reign had passed.
He had started many building projects
That he hoped would last.
He fortified the cities;
He built walls that were strong.
His success and achievements
Made a list quite long.
The kingdom was at peace,
And God had surely blessed.
Solomon's fame spread far and near.
Other nations were very impressed!
The Queen of Sheba heard
Of Solomon's great success.
She knew that she must go
And put Solomon to the test.
She traveled to Jerusalem.
She had to see for herself
If Solomon was truly
A king of wisdom and wealth.
The queen was overwhelmed
By what she heard and saw.
The half had not been told
She observed with unfeigned awe.
Solomon's blessings and success
Came from God above.
Solomon had worshipped God
With a heart of sincere love.
God will bless us too
If we will trust and obey.
He will give us wisdom.
His way is the best way!
